(Yicai Global) Jan. 22 -- The Chinese banking sector's non-performing loan ratio fell to 1.92 percent at the end of last year in a 0.06 percentage point drop from its start, according to data the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission released today.

The total amount of NPLs nonetheless rose by CNY281.6 billion (USD43.42 billion) to CNY3.5 trillion (USD539.6 billion), the CBIRC said.

Total assets of Chinese banks had grown 10.1 percent to CNY319.7 trillion as of Dec. 31. The country’s commercial banks earned CNY2 trillion in net profit last year, down 1.8 percent from 2019.
