China's Bourses Opened Stronger on Farmers' Stock Gains

(Yicai Global) Feb. 20 -- China's mainland stock markets began the day slightly higher, led by agricultural firms.

The Shanghai Composite Index climbed 0.20 percent to 2,761.06 points at the opening bell. The Shenzhen Component Index edged up to 0.04 percent to 8,443.98 points. The ChiNext Price Index, involving Shenzhen's small caps, rose 0.07 percent to 1,406.99 points.

Yesterday the central government published its plans for developing the country's agricultural sector and rural areas, which spurred 3 percent growth in stocks related to the farming sector. Non-ferrous metals also performed well, while rising 2 percent.
