China Brings Suit Against Australia Over Anti-dumping Measures(Yicai Global) June 24 -- China today filed a lawsuit at the World Trade Organization against Australia's anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures for Chinese exports of train wheels, wind turbines and stainless steel sinks, China’s Ministry of Commerce announced on its official website.
According to a CCTV report, commerce ministry spokesman Gao Feng said today that Australia has applied or extended anti-dumping measures on train wheels and wind turbines imported from China in 2019, and it has extended anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures against stainless steel sinks imported from China in 2020. In these three cases, Australia has violated the WTO’s Anti-Dumping Agreement and the Subsidies and Countervailing Measures Agreement, Gao said.
China opposes abuse of trade remedy measures, which not only harms the interests of Chinese companies, but also undermines the seriousness and authority of WTO rules, he said, adding that China hopes Australia will take concrete actions to correct its practices and avoid distortions in trade.
China’s exports of goods to Australia increased by 6.54 percent to AUD84.4 billion (USD63.9 billion) last year, while its imports from Australia fell by 2.15 percent to AUD145.19 billion (USD110.04 billion). Last year, the bilateral trade in goods between the two nations totaled AUD229.623 billion, up 0.88 percent from the previous year, according to China's commerce ministry, citing data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
