(Yicai Global) Dec. 11 -- Inflationary pressures in China remain subdued as the latest consumer and producer prices beat expectations thanks to good weather for food production.

The consumer price index was almost flat in November, while year-on-year it rose 1.7 percent, just shy of a forecast increase of 1.8 percent, according to data the National Bureau of Statistics released on Dec. 9. Producer prices gained 0.5 percent from October, a dip of 0.2 percentage points from that month, and gained 5.8 percent year-on-year.

Consumer prices have increased less than 2 percent a month for 10 straight months since February mainly because of favorable weather conditions for food producers, which is also good news for consumers.

The cost of food fell by an average 0.5 percent in November, with fresh vegetables dropping 4.8 percent on moderate temperatures, which were conducive to production, storage and transportation, ensuring adequate market supply. Pork fell 0.8 percent, while aquatic products declined 1.3 percent.

Declines in those three food groups led to a drop of 0.16 percentage points in the consumer price index, said senior NBS analyst Sheng Guoqing.

In terms of the performance of major industries, oil and gas producer prices jumped 6.2 percent. The ferrous metal smelting and calendaring saw an increase of 0.5 percent. The carryover effect of last year's price fluctuations contributed 1.7 percentage points to the 5.8 percent annual gain in the producer price index. New factors added 4.1 percentage points.
