(Yicai Global) Sept. 13 -- China's couriers delivered 3.26 billion packages last month, 29.4 percent more than the same period last year, as industry income soared 27.2 percent to CNY40.4 billion (USD6.18 billion).

The total number of parcels delivered in the first eight months totaled 23.79 billion, up 30.2 percent on the year, with intra-city business increased by 25.1 percent, cross-region deliveries climbing 31.9 percent and international carriage leaping 31.1 percent, China News Service reported on Sept. 12. Business income over the period totaled USD45.57 billion, up 27 percent.

Cross-region deliveries were the most common, making up 74.5 percent of all parcels sent, while intra-city trips covered 23.4 percent and international packages made up the remainder. Compared with last year, the share of intra-city deliveries actually dipped 0.9 percent, while cross-region deliveries rose by the same amount.

East China was the dominant region for the sector, occupying an 81 percent market share. Central China chipped in 11.7 percent and western regions chipped in the remainder. Western regions actually increased their share of the market by 0.2 percentage point from last year, while the two other areas lost 0.1 point each.
