(Yicai Global) March 10 -- China's consumer prices rose 5.5 percent annually in February due to soaring food prices, especially pork, resulting from the Covid-19 outbreak, the country's National Bureau of Statistics announced today.

The rise was higher than chief economists surveyed by Yicai Global had predicted, with an average forecast of 5.06 percent. Prices rose 5.4 percent in January.

The price of pork was more than double the year-ago figure in February, with food prices jumping 21.9 percent on average. Overall, consumer prices rose 0.8 percent in February from the previous month.
