China Develops International Standard for Acoustic Testing More Accurate Than NASA China Develops International Standard for Acoustic Testing More Accurate Than NASA

(Yicai Global) Oct. 19 -- The Fifth Institute of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp. has developed and published international standard ISO 19924 Space System -- Acoustic Test, filling the void in such standards for acoustic tests, Science and Technology Daily reported.

Beijing Institute of Satellite Environment Engineering, which is affiliated with the Fifth Institute, developed the standard to provide a method for ground-based labs to simulate the acoustic environment of a flying aircraft, to evaluate spacecraft and ensure they can withstand the huge noise generated during launch phases.

By fully factoring in volume and shape, the CAST BISEE algorithm can create conditions for noises tests that are closer to real-life situations, and therefore more accurate, than those generated by the LERC algorithm used by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
