(Yicai Global) Dec. 20 -- Didi Chuxing, China's largest ride-hailing platform, will launch an online food delivery service in Japan next year to stand up against Uber Technologies's Uber Eats in the Asian country.
Didi Mobility Japan, the Beijing-based firm's joint venture with Japan's SoftBank Group, plans to start its service with the working title of 'Didi Food' in Osaka in February, and then expand to the whole country, Sina Finance reported.
Competitor Uber Eats launched in Tokyo in September 2016 and has expanded to 10 Japanese cities with a network of over 10,000 restaurants.
Didi Chuxing will leverage its ride-hailing experience and take care of its contractors by covering their potential medical expenses in case of accidents, as well as reimburse damaged goods. Scooter or bicycle owners can sign up for free to deliver foods.
