(Yicai Global) April 7 -- China Eastern Airlines has introduced a distance-based air ticket, redeemable on any number of flights within 10,000 kilometers, in its latest attempt to tempt people to fly with attractive rates.

Any number of domestic flights can be taken over a period of one year, and the mileage flown will be deducted from the overall 10,000 kilometers, the Shanghai-based airline said yesterday. Prices range from CNY4,666 (USD714) when a 30-day reservation period is required to CNY11,666 for instant bookings.

While passenger loads are already back to 90 percent of those in 2019, ticket prices remain low, The Paper reported, citing civil aviation expert Lin Zhijie. This is an innovative product launched by China Eastern that could improve its overall rates, he added.

China Eastern has been very inventive with finding ways to drum up sales. Last June, it offered a Fly at Will ticket package, giving customers unlimited flights over any weekend for a price of just CNY3,322 (USD508). The deal was very well received, prompting several other carriers to follow suit.

However, there have been a number of complaints about the various Fly at Will products, state broadcaster China Central Television reported earlier this month. The number of redeemable tickets is limited and the terms and conditions are opaque, making it difficult for users to book their preferred flights, it added.
