China's Electricity Consumption Rose 5% in First Half China's Electricity Consumption Rose 5% in First Half

(Yicai Global) July 16 -- China consumed 3.4 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity in the first half, up 5 percent from the year-ago period, according to data published by the National Development and Reform Commission today.

Residential consumption increased 9.6 percent while that of the services sector rose 9.4 percent, the nation's top economic planner said. Growth in the manufacturing sector was 3.1 percent and in the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fisher sectors was 5 percent on average.

The country generated 3.4 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity over the period, the National Bureau of Statistics said yesterday.
