(Yicai Global) Sept. 01 -- China's first civil test fly base approved by military and civil aviation authorities has opened to the public.

Located in the Shanghai Qingpu Modern Agriculture Park, the base opened to the public on Aug. 31.

The public can register, reserve and apply online via the base's WeChat account to obtain drone flight space and time per laws and regulations.

The base encompasses local scenic spots and areas, and the flight height is controlled below 150 meters, said an executive from Shanghai Youche Intelligent Science Development Co., one of the base's organizers.

As for the base's function, Ke Yubao, Executive Secretary-General of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association of China, said that all drone components must be tested beforedelivery, such as flight control and aerodynamic configuration. "Tests cannot be conducted in public places, nor densely-populated areas. The base serves the function of ensuring security."

Ke said that the base is under a pilot program for drone test flights and may be extended to other regions across China after experience on operation and regulation has accumulated.

More than 40,000 drones have been registered by individuals and originations in East China, accounting for one third of the total drones registered in China.
