China Forms Comprehensive System From Design to Application for Sensor Industry, MIIT Says China Forms Comprehensive System From Design to Application for Sensor Industry, MIIT Says

(Yicai Global) Sept. 11 – China's sensor industry now possesses a complete industrial system covering technical research and development, design, production and application, Peng Hongbing, deputy director of the information division at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), said at the 2017 World Internet of Things Exposition in the city of Wuxi in eastern Jiangsu province.

The country will further strengthen policy guidance, develop innovative platforms and establish an ecosystem for the sector, Peng added at the event's Summit of Sensor and Intelligent System Applications.

Sensor product makers in China still focus on medium- and low-end markets where the technical level required is relatively low, he said. Imports of medium and high-end sensors make up 80 percent of the Chinese market, while intelligent and miniature products are scarce in the country.

Industrial applications are important for the development of the sensor industry and it is necessary to deeply explore application demands for sensors in the fields of health, education, medical services and industry. There is potential to integrate sensor manufacturing and platforms for their application in industrial enterprises and medical institutions.

MIIT launched an action plan for the development of Internet Plus in 2016 with the competitiveness of the country's sensor industry set to improve based on expanded market demands and policy guidance.

Internet plus is used to refer to the application of the internet and other information technology to traditional industries.
