(Yicai) April 11 -- China and Georgia have signed a reciprocal 30-day visa-free agreement, sparking an immediate surge in related searches on Chinese online travel sites.

After the visa waiver deal was announced yesterday, searches for tours of Georgia more than doubled, according to travel agency Qunar.

Under the deal, standard passport holders from each country can enter, exit, or transit through the other for a single stay of up to 30 days. They can also stay for up to 90 days within every 180 days without needing a visa.

China Southern Airlines has four direct flights a week from Urumqi in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, with tickets priced at around CNY3,000 (USD415) for May.

Located in Western Asia and separated from Europe by the Caucasus Mountains, Georgia is known for its steamed buns, Azerbaijani Caspian Sea grilled fish with rice, and Armenian grilled trout.

The Chinese Ambassador to Georgia, Zhou Qian, and Georgia's Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili penned the visa-free deal in Tbilisi.
