China's High-Speed Train Ticket Discounts 32% From Wenzhou to Ningbo China's High-Speed Train Ticket Discounts 32% From Wenzhou to Ningbo

(Yicai Global) Aug. 18 -- China Railway Corp. recently announced it will discount tickets on certain high-speed rail lines.

Peoplerail.com posted details of discounted tickets for  high-speed trains departing Ningbo to Taizhou and Wenzhou. All three lie in China's southeastern Zhejiang province.

From Aug. 17, the second-class seat for G7536 train from Wenzhou South Station to Ningbo was a mere USD10 (CNY66), CNY30 less than the normal price of CNY96, or 32 percent off.

This is the second attempt China Railway has made in one month to reform commercial passenger transport. On July 17, the company announced it would push online takeaway meal orders on high-speed trains in 27 major high-speed railway stations in China.

The ticket discounting comes an incident to the National Development and Reform Commission's new policy on high-speed rail ticket regulation issued in April, based on which, ticket prices on some high-speed rail lines along China's southeast coastal region are to be adjusted upward or downward to inaugurate railway ticket price marketization.

After the new policy takes effect, ticket prices in the region will rise, with an increase for second-class seats of between 25-30 percent. Thus, from Sept. 1, a second-class seat on a train departing from Ningbo to Wenzhou at 08.56 am each day will be CNY92, while a second-class seat on the one leaving at 09.13 am will be CNY77, the prices appearing on train ticketing website 12306.com show. Earlier, the ticket prices for the two trains were the same at CNY102.
