(Yicai Global) Nov. 15 -- China's ministry of industry and information technology (MIIT) has for the first time published the usable range of frequency in medium frequency band of the fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication system.

In order to promote the development and application of 5G mobile communication system, per relevant laws and regulations and the actual situation of domestic frequency's use, frequency bands of 3,400-3,600 MHz and 4,800-5,000 MHz are planned to be the operating frequency bands for 5G, among which, 3,300-3,400 MHz is limited for indoor use in principle, said a document published on the ministry's website.

Therefore, the ministry will no longer accept and approve new applications for the license of terrestrial fixed service frequency in frequency bands of 3,400-4,200 MHz and 4,800-5,000 MHz, space radio service frequency in 3,400-3,700 MHz and space radio frequency of measurement and control in 3,400-3,600 MHz, indicated by the document.

The medium frequency band of 5G system published this time can meet the basic needs of system coverage and high capacity at the same time, thus constituting the bulk of band in the initial stage for China, said the ministry of industry and information technology.

The ministry will assign more frequency resources including high frequency band (millimeter waves, MMW) and low frequency band for 5G's application and development, it added.

5G communication system requires operating frequencies in different frequency bands, including high frequency band (above 24GHz MMW), medium frequency band (3,000-6,000 MHz) and low frequency band (below 3,000 MHz), to meet the requirements of several key performance indicators such as coverage, capacity and connections density.
