(Yicai Global) Oct. 20 -- Chinese auto parts manufacturer Joyson Electronic is conducting an internal investigation after a media report claimed that its Japanese unit has falsified performance data for its seat belts.

The products are not yet recalled, the Ningbo-based supplier to global carmakers said in a statement yesterday.

Webbing materials produced by Joyson Safety Systems Japan have been having some issues in tests but that was between 2000 and 2010, before the Chinese firm acquired the Japanese supplier, Joyson said, adding that its other factories have no such problems.

Joyson Safety Systems Japan has created fake performance data, which may lead to a recall of millions of cars, the Nikkei reported on Oct. 14.

In April 2018, Joyson Safety Systems Japan bought Takata which filed for bankruptcy in mid-2017 in the largest liquidation among Japanese manufacturers since World War II. Takata's defective airbags had caused the world's largest automobile recall with a scale of over one million vehicles.
