China, Pakistan, Afghanistan Will Talk on Extending CPEC to the Lattermost China, Pakistan, Afghanistan Will Talk on Extending CPEC to the Lattermost

(Yicai Global) Dec. 27 -- China, Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to discuss ways to extend the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told media after the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue in Beijing yesterday, as China News Service reported.

Afghanistan urgently wants to develop its economy and improve its people's livelihood and is willing to integrate itself into the regional interconnection. The three nations are willing to discuss ways to extend the CPEC to Afghanistan per the principle of mutual benefit, as the CPEC will gradually connect with the China-Central and Western Asia Economic Corridor via the landlocked nation.

The trio will gradually consult on specific cooperation projects and means, with border areas potentially forming an entry point for the expansion, Wang Yi said.

The CPEC is in line with the needs of China and Pakistan, and will serve the common development of both countries. For more than four years since its implementation, the corridor has been key in improving the living standards of Pakistanis and promoting the Islamic republic's infrastructure construction and has had good economic and social effects, while promoting interconnection within the region, Wang Yi added.
