China's Passenger-Journeys to Reach Almost 3 Billion in 2018 Chunyun China's Passenger-Journeys to Reach Almost 3 Billion in 2018 Chunyun

(Yicai Global) Jan. 9 – China's National Development and Reform Commission expects the number of Chinese passenger-journeys during the 2018 Chunyun to reach 2.98 billion, a similar level to that of last year.

The Chunyun refers to the peak travel period of travel in China around the time of the Chinese New Year, which lasts for around 40 days.

Growth in passenger volumes during Chinese New Year is slowing but changing habits have led to increased demand for railway and civil aviation transportation, the NDRC said yesterday.

Passenger-journeys by land will fall 1.6 percent to 2.48 billion people, while those by train, plane and boat will increase 8.8 percent, 10 percent and 4.4 percent, respectively, to 389 million, 65 million and 46 million.

This year's Chunyun will run from Feb. 1 to Mar. 12.
