China's September CPI Was Up 2.5% Annually China's September CPI Was Up 2.5% Annually

(Yicai Global) Oct. 16 -- China's consumer price index rose 2.5 percent annually last month, with growth fairly equally split between urban and rural consumers, according to official data published today.

The figure was up 0.7 percent from August, the National Bureau of Statistics said online. Food prices leapt 3.6 percent on the year while non-food prices gained 2.2 percent, and prices for goods and services rose 2.7 percent and 2.1 percent.

The annual and monthly gains of prices in certain product categories are detailed below:

-          Food, tobacco and liquor increased by 3 percent on the year (2.4 percent on the month), under which fresh vegetables increased by 14.6 percent

-          fresh fruit increased by 10.2 percent

-          eggs increased by 7.1 percent

-          poultry increased by 4.4 percent

-          cooking oil fell 0.6 percent

-          meat declined by 0.4 percent.

-          Transport and communication increased by 2.8 percent on the year and 0.3 percent on the month.

-          Healthcare increased by 2.7 percent on the year and 0.2 percent on the month.

-          Residence increased by 2.6 percent on the year and 0.4 percent on the month.

-          Education, culture and recreation increased by 2.2 percent on the year and 0.5 percent on the month.

-          Household items and services increased by 1.2 percent on the year and 0.1 percent on the month.

-          Clothing increased by 1.2 percent on the year and 0.2 percent on the month.

-          Other goods and services increased by 0.7 percent on the year but decreased by 0.7 percent on the month.
