Yicai Global) Oct. 31 -- China and South Korea have exchanged views on issues concerning the Korean peninsula. The exchange took place via China's ministry of foreign affairs and South Korean presidency, the Blue House.

After exchanges between Kong Xuanyou, assistant minister of China's ministry of foreign affairs, and Nam Gwan-pyo, deputy director of national security at the South Korean presidency, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the principle of realizing denuclearization of the North Korean Peninsula and the peaceful settlement of the nuclear issues on the Korean Peninsula.

China and South Korea reiterated that they would continue to promote the settlement of the nuclear issue on Korean peninsula through diplomatic means. Both sides said that they would further strengthen strategic communication and cooperation, according to a statement on the website of China's ministry of foreign affairs today.

South Korea recognized China's position and concern on the issue of THAAD anti-ballistic missile defense system and made it clear that the THAAD system deployed in South Korea is not aimed at any third country in accordance with its original purpose, namely no harm to China's strategic security interests. From the standpoint of safeguarding national security, China reiterated its opposition to the deployment of the US-made THAAD system in South Korea.

China noted the South Korean position and hoped that South Korea would properly handle relevant issues. Both sides agreed to communicate on the issue of THAAD due to China's concerns, using military channels, the statement added.

China clarified its position and concerns on the development and deployment of anti-ballistic missile systems, additional deployment of "THAAD" and the military cooperation between South Korea, the United States and Japan, while South Korea once again reiterated its previously-stated position on those issues.

Both sides expressed that they attached great importance to the Chinese-South Korean relations and were willing to promote the development of China-South Korea strategic partnership in accordance with the spirit of bilateral documents signed between them. Both sides believed that strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the two countries was in the common interests of both sides, and agreed to bring back exchanges and cooperation to normal track in various fields through further communications.
