(Yicai Global) Jan. 21 -- China's mainland stock markets started the day higher as investor confidence strengthened after three major US equity indexes hit all-time highs on the day that Joe Biden was sworn in as the next president of the US.

The Shanghai Composite Index began at 3,590.92, up 0.22 percent. The Star Market Board 50 Index rose 0.28 percent to 1,485.65.

The Shenzhen Component Index moved 0.19 percent up to 15,251.67. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, climbed 0.4 percent to 3,217.83.

The US markets were welcoming the new president by surging. The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index edged up 0.8 percent to 31,188.38. The Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 2 percent to 13,457.25. The S&P 500 rose 1.4 percent to 3,851.85.
