China to Open Two New High-Speed Rail Links to Expand Coverage to All Cities in 12 Provinces China to Open Two New High-Speed Rail Links to Expand Coverage to All Cities in 12 Provinces

(Yicai) Sept. 9 -- China will soon open two new high-speed railroads in southeastern Guizhou province and northeastern Liaoning province, bringing the number of Chinese provinces where every city has access to such rail links to 12.

Guizhou's high-speed railroad from Panzhou to Xingyi started joint commissioning and testing on Sept. 6, while the Shenyang-Changbaishan section of the rail link between Shenyang in Liaoning and Jiamusi in Heilongjiang province began trial operation with simulated passenger weight on Sept. 4.

The opening of the Shenyang-Changbaishan section will bring high-speed rail services to the cities of Tonghua and Baishan in Jilin province and Fushun in Liaoning.

China is moving into a phase of setting up a dense high-speed railroad network from building backbone lines. Hubei and Guangxi joined the list of provinces where all cities have access to such rail links last year, with the other eight being eastern Fujian, Anhui, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Hebei, and Guangdong, and central Henan and Hunan.

In 2023, Jiangxi became the first province to have high-speed rail services that can reach a speed of 350 kilometers per hour in every city.
