China's Trina Solar Reveals Plans of Tripled Output by 2021(Yicai Global) Aug. 13 -- Chinese photovoltaic giant Trina Solar is looking to triple its output of solar cells by the end of 2021 by expanding at home and abroad.
Trina Solar should boost its total capacity to 26 gigawatts from the current 12 GW by the end of next year, the Jiangsu province-based firm said in a statement yesterday. Some 70 percent of the total should be 210-nanometer solar cells.
The goal calls for domestic and foreign efforts. Trina Solar will invest CNY3.8 billion (USD547.5 million) in its solar cell plant in Yancheng to reach a 10-GW capacity there, the statement added. Construction should take six months. It will use CNY800 million (USD115.3 million) of the money to upgrade its existing production line in the eastern city.
Abroad, the company is planning on investing in solar cell production with an output of 2.5 GWs.
Trina Solar will increase its scale and realize cost advantages in the field of large and highly efficient solar cells to seize opportunities in the monocrystalline silicon wafer market with the help of local government policies, it added.
Trina Solar's stock price [SHA:688599] rose 1.05 percent to CNY16.37 (USD2.40) in the afternoon.
