China, US Will Dominate Future of Cloud Computing, Alibaba Cloud President Says China, US Will Dominate Future of Cloud Computing, Alibaba Cloud President Says

(Yicai Global) Oct.12 -- The global cloud computing sector will be dominated by Chinese and American companies, Tech Sina quoted Alibaba Cloud Computing Co. president Hu Xiaoming as saying yesterday.

Alibaba Cloud, a subsidiary of Chinese internet giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. [NYSE:BABA], will face the same difficulties and challenges in the next six to 12 months that its American counterparts have encountered recently, he said.

Every industry will use cloud computing because of an increasing dependency on the internet, bringing more opportunities for firms engaged in digital transformation, added Hu.

Alibaba Cloud is the world's third largest cloud computing company, its main competitors are Amazon Web Services, by Amazon.com Inc. [NASDAQ:AMZN], and Microsoft Corp.'s [NASDAQ:MSFT] Azure. Future cloud computing is a game between China and the US, he said. Although the US has first mover advantage in the cloud computing market, China is comparatively more open to the adoption of digital transformation.

Amazon's AWS public cloud ranks first in terms of global market share, followed by Azure, states a report released by authoritative research institute Gartner in late September. Alibaba Cloud is in third place after overtaking Alphabet Inc.'s [NASDAQ:GOOG] Google Inc.
