(Yicai) Sept. 19 -- Joyson Electronics, a Chinese auto parts supplier, has continued its expansion into the robotics sector by launching three new products.
Joyson released an artificial intelligence-powered robot head assembly, a robot domain controller based on Nvidia's Jetson Thor chip, and a robot energy management system, the Ningbo-based company announced at an event yesterday. The focus of the new products is integration, unlike other robot parts suppliers that prioritize individual components, it noted.
In addition, Joyson showcases some of its robot components, including binocular depth cameras, olfactory sensors, solid-state light detection and ranging sensors, and inertial measurement units.
"Drawing on our experience with auto parts supply, an integrated assembly approach enhances product stability and individual component value," Hu Shuang, general manager of Joyson Embodied Intelligence Robotics, a unit Joyson set up in April, told Yicai.
For example, the domain controller boasts an AI computing power of 2,070 tera operations per second, 7.5 times more than that of Nvidia's previous-generation Orin chip, while its central processing unit performs 3.1 times better, Hu said. "Just a month after Nvidia introduced its Jetson Thor platform, we aim to leverage it to boost robot performance."
Joyson aims to position itself as a "Tier 1 supplier for both the auto and robotics industries," according to Board Secretary Yu Chaohui. However, like the broader industry, its robotics business remains in the early phase, Yu said, adding that "the size of this market will depend on the pace of our product innovation and technological investment."
Joyson will provide customized robot domain controller and energy management system solutions for Swiss embodied intelligence robotics firm RIVR, it pointed out. Since the start of this year, its robot energy management products have been trialed by AgiBot, Galbot, and others.
The world's humanoid robot market will likely reach USD32.4 billion by 2029, with the Chinese market expected to top CNY75 billion (USD10.6 billion), according to a report released at the First Chinese Humanoid Robot Industry Conference and Embodied AI Summit held in Beijing in April last year.
Established in 2004, Joyson focuses on auto safety systems and smart cockpit electronics, ranking second worldwide in safety system market share. It began expanding into the robotics area this year.
Shares of Joyson [SHA: 600699] climbed 1.6 percent to CNY37.45 (USD5.26) each as of lunch break in Shanghai today. The stock surged by the daily trading limit of 10 percent yesterday.
