(Yicai Global) May 15 - China's mainland stock markets surged today, with strong support from agricultural companies.
The Shanghai Composite Index rose 1.9 percent to close at 2,938.68, with a turnover of CNY226.3 billion (USD33 billion). The Shenzhen Component Index added 2.4 percent to 9,259.03 on a turnover of CNY286.5 billion. The ChiNext Index climber 2.3 percent to 1,528.69 with a trading volume of CNY81.6 billion.
More than 100 stocks rose by the daily limit of 10 percent, including liquor distillers, industrial hemp firms, corn processors, and meat-substitute makers. Autonomous driving and the Internet of Vehicles companies raced to climb up in the afternoon after China's information technology ministry released new standards for smart connected cars.
Precious metals led the group of stocks that declined.
