(Yicai  Global) Aug. 21 -- Stock markets on the Chinese mainland were a mixed bag this morning as investors were hesitant to invest  following the markets' impressive performance earlier this week.

The Shanghai Composite Index opened 0.16 percent lower at 2,875.47, while the Shenzhen Component Index was down 0.26 percent at 9,304.45. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, started the day 0.17 percent stronger at 1,614.30.
