(Yicai Global) Oct. 15 -- Chinese manufacturers are adjusting to deal with the problems of electricity rationing and the rising cost of materials and shipping.

A Yiwu-based firm that makes Christmas decorations has been seriously affected, according to company official Li Jun. Not only has its power supply been halved, but its raw material costs have also jumped as much as 60 percent since last month, shrinking an already meager profit. The firm will have to hike its product prices in the future, Li said.

Electricity rationing did not impact e-bike maker Suzhou Dynavolt Intelligent Vehicle Technology, General Manager Zeng Xiansheng told Yicai Global, but deliveries were delayed as upstream product costs rose due to power cuts.

Dynavolt exports all its mid- and high-end electric bicycles, except for those made for bike-sharing giant Hello, Zeng said, adding that Dynavolt is pushing to develop its branding strategy, giving up some production orders to increase the proportion of its own brand.

In eastern Zhejiang province’s Zhuji, a city that turns out 35 percent of the world’s socks, businesses have undergone digital, fashionable, and smart transformations to evolve and satisfy market needs, said Zhao Jiabing, GM at Zhejiang Socks Industry.

Some firms rely on digital tools to collect the requests of the brands in a timely manner and design personalized socks for young people, giving more added value to the products, Zhao said.

China’s exports reached USD305.7 billion in September, up 28.1 percent from a year earlier and 7 points higher than forecast and in line with expectations for a strong trend, said Zheng Huocheng, director of Yingda Securities Research Institute. The export value is usually higher in the second half of the year, as it is festive season in western countries, so we can be optimistic about the growth in the period, Zheng added.
