(Yicai Global) July 23 -- Chinese environmental organization has taken back its green certificate from a unit of floor laminator Dare Power Dekor Home, because of its reluctance to rectify the manufacturing process.
Power Dekor Group failed to fulfill its environmental protection and social responsibilities, and thereby it is removed from the list of members, Alxa SEE Ecological Association told local news outlet Changjiang Times. The Jiangsu province-based firm, whose brand value reached USD6 million this year, had not answered a reporter's inquiries.
Last April, another green group the SIP Lvse Jiangnan Public Environment Concerned Center reported that many residents near the factory suffered from headaches and vomiting due to a strong smell of smoke. Next month, the municipal government of Danyang ordered the firm to clean up its lamination process. Alxa SEE's staff had visited the site this month but found no change to the polluter's practices.
Ending Power Dekor's Alxa SEE partnership will have a great impact and may mean that other member companies will stop working with Power Dekor Group, economist Song Qinghui said.
Jiangsu's nature has taken a hit from its manufacturers in the past months. In June, China's largest private steelmaker Shagang Group was accused of dumping some 2.3 million tons of steel slag along the banks of China's longest Yangtze River. In May, a chairman of pesticide producer Lianyungang CCA Chemical was arrested after it emerged that his plant had been discharging wastewater into local rivers.
