(Yicai Global) Nov. 21 -- The number of Chinese 5G communication service subscribers has reached 870,000 to date, Miao Wei, Minister of China's agency that oversees information technology, said today.

Up to 113,000 5G base stations are already beaming, Miao added, and that number is set to rise to 130,000 by the end of this year, he noted, speaking at the inaugural World 5G Convention in Beijing.

China's three big telecoms started enrolling 5G users at the end of last month and began commercial service on Nov. 1.
