(Yicai Global) Nov. 20 -- Chinese consular officials visited Cordoba for a consular inspection between Nov. 9 and Nov. 11, the Chinese Embassy in Argentina said on its website. Chinese officials talked with lawyers about Chinese immigrants in Cordoba province who have been deprived of Argentine citizenship for allegedly fabricating documents, China News Service reported.

A female clerk in a local court in Cordoba has been accused of fraud, causing 400 Chinese immigrants to lose an opportunity to obtain Argentine citizenship. The clerk has received a suspended prison sentence of three years and has been fined. Many Chinese victims have ended up stateless. They have neither Argentine nor Chinese citizenship and do not have passports.

Chinese consular officials met with the authorities from the Cordoba provincial government in charge of foreign and immigration affairs to learn about the conditions of Chinese immigrants in the province, and asked the government to protect their legitimate rights. 

Chinese consular officials met with representatives of Chinese students studying in Argentina to tell them about policies on consular protection and assistance, visited supermarkets and gift stores run by Chinese immigrants, and talked with Chinese living in Argentina about how to integrate into the local society and achieve diversified development.
