(Yicai) Sept. 23 -- Several Chinese southern cities have implemented preventive measures, such as suspending work and schools, to prepare for the arrival of super typhoon Ragasa.
Dongguan, Jiangmen, Shantou, Zhuhai, and Yangjiang in Guangdong province, as well as Haikou in Hainan province, yesterday announced they would implement the 'Five Stop' measures, which are suspending classes, halting work, ceasing production, stopping transportation services, and closing businesses.
China's National Meteorological Center issued an orange-level typhoon warning at 6 a.m. yesterday, as Ragasa is expected to move into the northeastern South China Sea early today and make landfall along the coast between Shenzhen and Xuwen in Guangdong province tomorrow. Strong winds and heavy rainfall are expected to severely hit the central and eastern coastal areas of Guangdong and the northern coast of Hainan.
Dongguan announced it will shut down all schools, training institutions, and outdoor work activities from 6 p.m. yesterday to 6 p.m. on Sept. 25, while suspending food delivery and express delivery services from 2 p.m. today to 6 a.m. on Sept. 25.
Shenzhen will halt several railroads and ground flights at the Shenzhen Baoan International Airport from 8 p.m. today. All ferry services were shut down on Sept. 21 and will resume on Sept. 25.
Due to typhoon Ragasa, the Qiongzhou Strait will experience prolonged service suspensions from the night of Sept. 23, Hainan announced yesterday. Rail services to and from Hainan Island will also be halted, the Chinese southernmost province noted.
Haikou Meilan International Airport issued travel advisories yesterday, notifying the public that flights to and from the airport will be affected by the typhoon.
Some 146 passenger ferries along 50 routes in Fujian province's coastline had been suspended as of yesterday. Fujian is located to the Northeast of Guangdong along the coast.
