(Yicai Global) Aug. 16 -- China's three main stock indexes retreated some of their gains from the morning, still closing higher. Growth firms performed the best.

The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, gained 0.8 percent to 1,567.99. The Shenzhen Component Index climbed 0.6 percent to 9,060.92. The Shanghai Composite Index edged up 0.3 percent to 2,823.82.
