(Yicai Global) Sept. 17 -- The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, was the only mainland stock index that closed higher today amid a busy day of trading.

The Shanghai Composite Index ended at 3,270.43, down 0.41 percent. The Nasdaq-like Star Market 50 Index, or Star 50, was up 2.51 percent at 1,383.59.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed at 13,015.19, down 0.53 percent. The ChiNext edged up 0.10 percent to 2,557.32.

The daily trading volume rose to CNY753.8 billion (USD111.4 billion) from yesterday's CNY684 billion.
