(Yicai Global) Sept. 8 -- Qingdao Citymedia [SHA:600229] and e-commerce giant JD.com Inc. [NASDAQ:JD] have reached a strategic cooperation agreement to build cultural and leisure spaces based on the Jingdong Home Program.
The Shandong-based company said that it signed a deal with JD.com in Beijing Thursday and that the parties will merge Citymedia's BC MIX themed bookstores with the Jingdong Home Program to create at least 10 cultural and leisure spaces this year, and another 20 by the end of next year.
The two firms will jointly produce JD 3C (Computer, Communication and Consumer Electronics) fashion journals and electronics magazines, and collaborate on finance, logistics, membership and big data.
JD.com's 3C business department introduced Jingdong Home as an offline store scheme at the end of last year to provide consumers with 3C products for the same favorable prices offered online. Some Jingdong Homes provide select lifestyle products such as home appliances, books, and cosmetics and have recreation and entrainment zones to create unique shopping locations for consumers.
BC MIX themed bookshops opened in Qingdao in March last year. They function as a bookstore and a gourmet shop, providing consumers with a hangout that combines elements like reading, gourmet coffee, vinyl records records and video products.
