Didi, BAIC BJEV Plan New Ride-Sharing Service Didi, BAIC BJEV Plan New Ride-Sharing Service

(Yicai Global) Jan. 28 -- Didi Chuxing, the world's largest ride-hailing provider, and China's biggest electric carmaker BAIC BJEV have set up a joint venture as they look to create a car-hailing service tailored to shared travel.

Jingju New Energy Vehicle Technology has CNY400 million (USD59.4 million) in registered capital, of which Didi's operator Xiaoju Technology contributed two thirds, Beijing News reported, citing the company's registration information. The unit has registered units in Hangzhou, Qingdao, Wuhan and five other cities.

Beijing Automotive Industry Holding, BAIC BJEV's state-owned parent, signed on to work with Didi in March last year. The two firms agreed to cooperate in the NEV industry chain, and the new joint venture is their first step toward doing so. The company will aim to explore NEV operations, big data and services related to charging and battery replacement.

The effort is one of several collaborations Didi has signed up for as it looks to expand in the upstream and downstream sectors related to car travel. It set up the D-Alliance in April with BAIC and 30 other manufacturers of cars, batteries, parts, maps and Internet of Vehicles-related technologies.
