Envision’s Supercomputing Power Hub in Northeast China Begins Operations(Yicai) Aug. 7 -- Chinese green energy firm Envision Group’s supercomputing hub in Ulanqab in China’s northeastern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has officially come on stream.
The Envision Ulanqab Xinghe Base has a computing power of one million petaflops, aimed at meeting the computing power needs of top technology and artificial intelligence companies, and a supporting power capacity of two gigawatts to ensure the efficient and stable operation of the local AI chip cluster, an Envision spokesperson said. The base mostly consumes green electricity.
Ulanqab is one of the eight major nodes in China’s ‘East Data, West Computing’ initiative, with a unique advantage in network latency, and can efficiently carry real-time online computing power needs, said Zheng Zihao, general manager of Envision AI Data Center.
Ulanqab’s new energy power installed capacity exceeded 20.3 million kilowatts at the end of last year, accounting for two-thirds of its total installed capacity. The maximum discharge capacity of energy storage stations in the city at the same time was 3.2 million KW, and the total maximum storage capacity of its energy storage stations was 11.1 million kilowatt-hours.
“We can fully utilize the abundant wind energy resources of Ulanqab and achieve direct green power supply for the computing power center through self-built wind farms and dedicated transmission lines,” Zhao noted.
“Envision plans to develop a green power direct supply mode for its Ulanqab computing power base,” Zheng said. “The company will translate its experience in integrated operation of power generation, grid, load, and storage into a replicable technical solution and then export it to overseas regions with urgent computing power demand and weak power infrastructure.”
