(Yicai Global) Sept. 20 -- A FedEx pilot detained by Chinese authorities in Guangzhou has made bail after being detained for allegedly attempting to transport ammunition to Hong Kong.

"We are working with the appropriate authorities to gain a better understanding of the facts," the Tennessee-based firm told the Global Times, only confirming that officers had found an "item" in the employee's bag.

Todd Hohn, a former US Air Force pilot, was detained a week ago before boarding a flight to his home in Hong Kong from the mainland, according to a Wall Street Journal report, which said authorities found non-metallic pellets used in replica air guns in his checked baggage.

The incident follows a string of mishaps for FedEx in China. Authorities accused the courier earlier this month of delivering controlled knives in Hong Kong, and on Aug. 18, the Public Security Bureau of Fuzhou, Fujian province, said that a local sporting goods company had received a package containing firearms from the courier. Police seized the gun and immediately began investigating the matter.

FedEx had earlier been suspected of withholding more than 100 packages that Huawei Technologies was trying to deliver to China. Local investigations into the claims led to clues about other potential violations, according to the Global Times report.
