(Yicai) Aug. 21 -- Roborock Technology did not attend a patent case heard in Germany because China’s second-largest seller of robot vacuum cleaners did not receive notice, leading to a default judgment being issued in its absence, according to a 21st Century Business Herald report that cited a company source.
According to online rumors, the German court hearing the case issued a default judgment against Roborock because the Beijing-based company failed to show up at the trial to resolve a dispute over a robot mop patent.
The incident will not result in the loss of any patents, the source said in the report published yesterday, adding that Roborock is actively addressing the issue and preparing to file an appeal.
Regarding the rumors that some Roborock’s products have been removed from Amazon Germany, the source said that the firm does not have a comprehensive understanding of the situation. The incident may impact Roborock’s local business, but only to a limited extent, the person added.
Roborock’s shares [SHA: 688169] ended 1 percent lower at CNY201.93 (USD28.31) apiece today. The wider Shanghai market came off 0.4 percent.
Roborock has said that the company expects net profit to have jumped 35 percent to 62 percent to between CNY1 billion and CNY1.2 billion (USD140 million and USD168 million) in the first half from a year earlier, thanks to increasing demand from overseas consumers.
Among foreign markets, Roborock is focused on developing in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, and the United States by leveraging the potential market size and offering high-quality products, according to the company’s 2023 earnings report.
Roborock sells products in over 170 countries and regions, with more than 15 million households using its products. The firm has subsidiaries in Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, South Korea, the US, and other countries.
