(Yicai Global) Sept. 22 -- A consortium led by Chinese building contractor China Gezhouba Group Corp. [SHA:600068], based in China's central Hubei province, has won a USD5.79-billion (CNY38.1-billion) bid to develop a 3.05-gigawatt hydropower station in Mambilla, Nigeria, the company said in a press briefing on Sept. 21.

Other members of the consortium include Sinohydro Corp. [SHA:601669] and CGCOC Group.  Gezhouba Group holds a 45 percent stake in the association.

The group will build four concrete dams, six tunnels totaling 30.3 kilometers in length, 12 generators and 1,295 kilometers of high-tension wires. The project is expected to be completed in 72 months.

The hydropower plant, located above the Gurara River at the junction of Nigeria and Cameroon, will be Nigeria's largest hydropower station.
