Google Unveils Its First WeChat Mini App as It Seeks New Paths Into China Google Unveils Its First WeChat Mini App as It Seeks New Paths Into China

(Yicai Global) July 18 -- Google has released WeChat mini app Guess My Sketch, its first on the Chinese social media platform, as it looks to work its way back into an economy where many of its products are banned.

The Californian tech giant announced the release of the game, which his similar to its Quick, Draw! online game, today. Players are asked to draw a picture of a specific everyday item and have 20 seconds for an AI bot to guess what the sketch depicts.

If the robot successfully guesses what is being drawn, a new round begins -- this begins a streak which continues until the bot is unable to figure out what the image shows. Users can invite friends and family to challenge their longest streak and share sketches.

Google has been slowly creeping back into the China market recently, working around the fact that its core products -- search, email and the Play Store -- are banned in the country. It launched its Google Translate app in China last year and got its file management app Files Go into the market in May. It also has partnerships with tech giant Tencent and online retailer JD.Com worth billions of dollars.

Google Information Technology China developed the app, which is classified as an online education app and is driven by neural networks from Google AI. The firm hopes the program will demonstrate to users how powerful and enjoyable AI is, it said.
