(Yicai Global) April 20 -- Southern China's Haikou is looking to upgrade its volcanic national park into a world-class tourist attraction with an investment of CNY417 million (USD58.9 million).

The money for the 46 projects to complete the Haikou Shishan Volcano National Geological Park will be raised through the government, equity investment, and other types of financing, according to the municipal administration's plan released recently.

The 108-square kilometer park that has calderas dating back a minimum of thousands of years is located about 15 kilometers from downtown Haikou in Hainan province.

The municipality wants to integrate the Quaternary landscape with the local culture to make the site into China’s only volcanic eco-cultural tourist destination in a tropical island city, according to the plan.
