Huawei Canada Executive Quits as Scrutiny of Chinese Telecoms Giant Grows Huawei Canada Executive Quits as Scrutiny of Chinese Telecoms Giant Grows

(Yicai Global) Jan. 14 -- A senior Huawei Canada executive has resigned at a time when the world's largest telecoms equipment maker is increasingly in the spotlight over security concerns.

Scott Bradley, senior vice president for corporate affairs, announced his departure through his LinkedIn account without disclosing specific reasons. Shenzhen-based Huawei did not provide an official response, but a company insider told Yicai Global that the move was part of normal personnel changes and said Bradley was not part of the top management.

Bradley worked at Huawei for seven-and-a-half years and was responsible for leading public affairs, marketing communications and government relations at the firm's Canadian operation, while also serving as lead spokesperson in the country. He will continue to provide consulting services for the firm, according to his social media post.

Bradley's departure coincides with Huawei's dismissal of Wang Weijing, an executive in Poland, after his arrest on Jan. 11 over suspected espionage as Huawei moved to distance itself from him. Both developments follow the detention of Huawei Chief Financial Officer Sabrina Meng in Canada last month at the request of a US prosecutor on suspicion of having violated American sanctions on Iran.

Bradley appeared outside court at Meng's third bail hearing on Dec. 11, when she was granted release on bail.

He has also been a regular speaker and moderator on Canada-China related business issues for the Canada China Business Council, the Asia Pacific Foundation, and the China-Canada Chamber of Commerce. Bradley has also served as a member of the board of directors for the Canada China Business Council, as well as the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association, and helped to set up the 5G Canada Council.
