(Yicai) Aug. 7 -- Huawei Technologies and Chery Automobile will release their new electric coupe this quarter, and it will be the first model to use the HarmonyOS 4 operating system, the Chinese tech giant said on social media today.

The new model is the first to come out of Huawei’s partnership with Chery and is part of the Luxeed brand. Chery announced last year that it and Huawei plan to release at least five high-end smart electric models, with two to be launched this year.

HarmonyOS 4 was unveiled at Huawei’s HDC Cloud 2023 on Aug. 4. Compared with the previous generation, HarmonyOS 4 is 20 percent faster and offers 30 minutes more battery life. It also brings improvements in payment and navigation functions, the Shenzhen-based company said at the conference.

Huawei plans to partner with several carmakers and lead the establishment of an ecosystem brand alliance, Yu Chengdong, chief executive of the firm’s smart car division, said recently. It has struck cooperation agreements with four carmakers so far.

Huawei said it participates deeply in the car design process, as well as marketing, user experience, and quality control.
