(Yicai) Nov. 14 -- Huawei is teaming up with Chinese on-demand life services behemoth Meituan to promote the development of mobile applications that are native to the tech giant’s Harmony operating system for smart devices.
Huawei is partnering with Meituan on industrial innovation, technology applications and business development revolving around HarmonyOS as Huawei moves to develop an independent HarmonyOS ecosystem, the Shenzhen-based company said yesterday.
The collaboration will help Beijing-based Meituan and other Internet companies generate more traffic and business opportunities as well as create greater commercial value, said Zhu Yonggang, president of Huawei Consumer Business Cloud Services.
Meituan plans to team up with Huawei to provide better services and user experiences with HarmonyOS, said Senior Vice President Li Shubin. The firm was advertising for a Senior HarmonyOS Engineer, HarmonyOS Infrastructure Engineer and other HarmonyOS specific posts earlier this month.
Huawei is joining forces with internet companies to develop mobile apps that are native to HarmonyOS, the tech giant said at the Huawei Developer Conference in September. This means that many Android apps will no longer be compatible with its standalone operating system.
Air China, BabyBus, Tongcheng Travel and other firms in a wide range of fields from finance, travel and social networking have adopted the HarmonyOS ecosystem since native apps started to be activated in September, Huawei said.
