(Yicai) Oct. 13 -- This year's Association of Tennis Professionals Rolex Shanghai Masters 1000 set new records for ticket sales and attendance.
More than CNY100 million (USD14 million) worth of tickets were sold for the two-week Rolex Shanghai Masters that ended yesterday, with a total of 250,000 spectators watching tennis matches on site during the period, according to official data.
The Rolex Shanghai Masters is one of the nine ATP Masters 1000 events globally, as well as the only ATP Masters 1000 in Asia. This year, Valentin Vacherot won the men's singles championship.
About 30 percent of the audience were Shanghai residents, 60 percent came from regions outside the city, and the remaining 10 percent were non-Chinese nationals. Daily sales of licensed merchandise surged 60 percent from last year's edition, with the highest single-day sales value nearing CNY2 million (USD280,440).
