(Yicai Global) April 27 -- Japanese carmaker Nissan’s luxury brand Infiniti is considering ending its independent run in China and becoming part of Nissan’s joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Group in the country, Economic Observer reported today.
Infiniti has already closed offices in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu to leave only its Beijing base running, the report cited an insider as saying. The source did not know how many workers the company had laid off.
The brand will still stick it out in China, he added, saying the marque is set to roll out five models in China by 2023 and launch its first battery electric vehicle there in 2021.
