(Yicai Global) May 30 -- Intel today entered into a partnership with China United Network Communications Group, better known as China Unicom, one of China's three state-owned telecom operators, to jointly promote what is referred to as Always-Connected PCs in the world's second-largest economy. Always-Connected PC is a computer that can be connected to a 4G wireless network, which frees users from WIFI and hotspot dependency.

The two firms will cooperate on Always-Connected PC technology, services, channels, testing and fees, technology news site TechWeb reported. China Unicom will provide heavy traffic subsidies to the first 300,000 Always-Connected PC units using its network services to achieve rapid expansion of this innovative model, according to the report.

China Unicom will also introduce a new traffic payment model, which will support Always-Connected PC billing and settlement under different applications, including office automation system, video-conferencing applications, and games. The payment model will vary according to daily, monthly or annual data traffic to ensure users will no longer worry about data restrictions.

Intel's leading customized research and development capability can effectively reduce the cost of Always-Connected PCs and is very beneficial to speeding up its development, said Li Guangju, a senior manager at China Unicom's government and enterprise customer unit. "China Unicom is very bullish on the market prospect of Intel's Always-Connected PC in China," he added.

Intel attaches great importance to working with China Unicom in the area of Always-Connected PC and the two sides will achieve first-class connectivity solutions to bring users smarter and more easily connected PCs, said Chen Rongkun, a senior Intel executive.
