(Yicai Global) May 16 -- Huawei Technologies, the world's biggest telecoms equipment maker, said a US restriction on its business would only serve to harm that country after President Donald Trump declared a 'national emergency' over threats to US technologiesand put Huawei on a trade blacklist.

"If the US restricts Huawei, it will not make the US safer, nor will it make the US stronger,"the Chinese company said in a statement today. It would instead harm the interests of American companies and consumers and leave the country trailing behind in the deployment of fifth-generation wireless technology, Huawei said.

After Trump signed the executive order, the Department of Commerce added Shenzhen-based Huawei and 70 affiliates to a list of firms that need to apply for a special permit to buy technologies from US companies.

"Unreasonable restrictions will infringe upon Huawei's rights and raise other serious legal issues," the company added.
