Porsche Recalls 57,200 Cars in China Over Gearbox Issues Porsche Recalls 57,200 Cars in China Over Gearbox Issues

(Yicai Global) July 15 -- Porsche China Automobile Sales will recall 57,200 Panamera and Cayenne models due to safety concerns over their transmissions.

The bushing that attaches the shifter cable on the vehicles may degrade and detach from the gearbox, which could render the driver unable to move the gearstick properly, the State Administration of Market Regulation said on July 12.

Starting Aug. 26, the German performance carmaker will take back 11,515 Cayennes made between July 7, 2008 and Feb. 5, 2010, and 45,685 Panameras made between Aug. 21, 2009 and Sept. 13, 2016.

The move is Porsche's fourth recall in China -- its largest market -- this year, adding up to 114,300 cars in total, most of which are Panameras. Despite the technical problems, it still shifted 42,608 cars in China during the first half, up 28 percent on the year.
